October 17, 2010

France’s Donatien Schauly and the bay, eight-year old Selle Francais Ocarina Du Chanois, edged out cross-country leader Mark Todd (NZL) and Landvision, to win the Boekelo CCI 3*.

Schauly, ranked in fourth place following cross-country, had a clear stadium round and time of 77.20 – more than enough to put him over the top. Ocarina Du Chanois, carried the third-placed dressage score of 70.80 and only four cross-country penalty points going into Sunday.

Todd and the gray nine-year-old New Zealand bred Landvision finished the weekend in second place overall after entering the show jumping ring in first place, carrying a score of 44.00.  But six jumping faults and a time of 81.20 left the door open for fourth ranked Schauly to move past.

Michael Jung (GER) fresh off his 2010 World Equestrian Games individual gold medal-winning performance, rode Weidezaunprofi’s River of Joy to a third place finish overall with a final score of 50.20.  Jung also rode Leopin to a final score of 50.60, leaving them in fifth place overall.

Julia Karjewski (GER) and the bay gelding After the Battle finished fourth with an overall score of 50.40 penalty points. Coming off her fifth place ranking following cross country,  Julia's scorching stadium time of 75.08 and clean round pushed her up from fifth to fourth.

With five horses, including Jung’s, in the top ten, Germany’s Team overwhelmingly topped the leader board of nations.
