Still using her maiden name Debby Malloy, she found her way to Warendorf in 1986 to train with Hans Günter Winkler. From a training relationship developed more, and her wedding with HGW followed in 1994. Debby Winkler was successful in a number of high class competitions on the road. Her greatest achievement, second place was one with her horse Sakrus HG the Grand Prix of Frankfurt in 1998.

Debby Winkler stürzte am vergangenen Freitag nach einer Trainingseinheit beim „Trockenreiten“ mit ihrem Pferd. Die US-Amerikanerin wurde sofort in die Universitätsklinik Münster zur ärztlichen Versorgung gebracht, wo ihr Leben aber nicht mehr gerettet werden konnte. Debby Winkler wurde 51 Jahre alt.

1976 kam die Tochter einer Pferdezüchterfamilie aus New York als Schülerin von Nelson Pessoa (Brasilien) erstmals nach Europa. Noch unter ihrem Geburtsnamen Debby Malloy fand sie 1986 den Weg nach Warendorf, um bei Hans Günter Winkler zu trainieren.
