FEI President HRH Princess Haya recently became patron of the organisation FEGENTRI (International Federation of Gentlemen and Lady Riders). FEGENTRI was founded in 1955 by France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland to promote international horse races for amateur riders. It now counts 24 member countries and organises two world championships – one for men, another for women – comprising some 60 races worldwide. Amateur riders competing in FEGENTRI world championship races come from varied backgrounds and all have full-time professions. Each FEGENTRI country member has its own active association, which is responsible for promoting and coordinating races and safeguarding the interests of its amateur riders at home and abroad.
