POSITION TITLE: Manager of Communications
DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Manager of Communications is responsible for executing AQHA’s communications and marketing plans. The Manager of Communications will create and distribute content that position AQHA as the industry leader and the American Quarter Horse as the preferred breed on a worldwide basis. The Manager of Communications will work with the marketing and publications staff to efficiently distribute all marketing, communications and e-commerce efforts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the primary traffic coordinator in the development of AQHA communications and marketing materials
Track brochures, signage, advertisements, press releases and other collateral materials from creative development through final production
Communicate with program and marketing managers to gather art, creative direction and materials prior to sending to production.
Track materials through the proofing process to ensure approval by appropriate parties and that all materials meet AQHA standards
Assist Association and Foundation departments in the development of material necessary to achieve their marketing goals.
Monitor materials through traffic system to achieve economies of scale and efficiencies in developing promotional material.
Look for ways to use already developed content in multiple ways.
Write or assign press releases, brochures, Web content and other marketing and information materials
Oversee distribution of all AQHA/AQHF material ensuring it reaches target market.
Establish and meet press release deadlines, ensure Web material is updated frequently
Write public service announcements, scripts, internal communications and speeches or executive communications, as needed.
Maintain AQHA’s media contacts list
Assist in coordinating pressroom and promotional activities for AQHA’s World shows, Convention and other promotional activities, banquets and receptions.
Serve as the main marketing point of contact for the AQHA Corporate Partner department and as the secondary contact for the Foundation and Hall of Fame & Museum.
Other duties as assigned
INTERNAL RELATIONS:
Reports to Director of Communications and maintains regular contact with Association staff and employees.
EXTERNAL RELATIONS:
Maintain contact with media, advertisers, AQHA members, industry officials, vendors and participants at various events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English or related degree
Display a high-degree of organization and ability to function in a fast-paced, multi-faceted area.
Ability to oversee, guide and manage multiple projects
Must have exemplary writing skills with deep knowledge of AP style and English grammar
MS Office skills with some design experience a plus
Meticulous attention to detail

Employment Alert - Marketing Internship at KER
Kentucky Equine Research Global Marketing Internship
Kentucky Equine Research (KER) is one of the foremost private equine nutrition and exercise physiology research facilities in the world. The main business of KER is as a consultant to feed manufacturers on six continents. Secondarily KER has two lines of equine supplements, including the KERx line, which has been heavily researched.
KER is seeking an intern to work no less than 16 hours a week with the Global Marketing Department located on the KER research farm in Versailles, Ky. This could be a full-time paid internship for the right candidate.
Any intern applicant should be:
1) Interested in learning and working in digital media with editorial content and product sales.
2) Detail-oriented and able to efficiently follow a set process consisting of multiple steps, as well as identify and communicate inefficiencies and inaccuracies.
3) Have a good grasp of the English language, grammar, and punctuation, and respect for and attention to internal style guidelines. Knowledge of AP style a plus.
4) Have an interest in, and experience with, online communications, including newsletters and social media.
5) Be self-sufficient and manage time well; this includes being punctual and meeting all deadlines with minimal oversight.
6) Be able to work independently, but also work as part of a team.
The job duties of this internship shall include, but not be limited to:
· Working on multiple electronic newsletters each week.
o For this task, basic HTML knowledge is required.
o This also requires written communication with all areas of the company.
o Strict attention to multiple weekly deadlines is required.
· Working on PC-based software programs (including learning multiple website content management systems)
· Working with images (knowledge of PhotoShop and metadata a plus).
· Written and verbal communications with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
· Proofreading and making changes to live electronic documents.
· Working in website content management systems to input content.
· Some writing opportunities will exist.
Compensation based on skill set of applicant.
