Eventing: Adelaide: CCI4*: Equestrian stars arrive in Adelaide

The superstars of Eventing are arriving in Adelaide ahead of the Southern Hemisphere’s most prestigious Eventing competition, the Australian Three-Day Event 12-14 November.

Adelaide’s Victoria Park has been transformed into a temporary stable housing close to 100 horses which will compete across three disciplines; Dressage, Cross-country and Show Jumping, over three days.

World class competition: CCI4* is the highest level of completion for the sport and Adelaide hosts one of only six events at this level held across the globe.  The four-star line-up includes Olympic Gold medallists Stuart Tinney and Wendy Schaeffer whilst Christopher Burton will be a favourite as he returns for the first time with the sensational Newsprint - the horse with which he won the 2008 title. John Twoomey from New Zealand will challenge the Aussie riders for the four-star title.

2008 Olympic Silver medallist Shane Rose will be competing in the CIC2* and 2004 Olympian Rebel Morrow will contest the CCI2*.

At 16 years-of-age Western Australia’s Emily Grey is the youngest competitor. Emily’s horse is also 16. The eldest competitor is 52 years-old.

International FEI judges Michel Asseray from France, Sandy Phillips and Andrew Fletcher from Great Britain, Jutta Koivula from Finland, and FEI Technical Delegates Andy Griffiths (GBR) and Chalermcharn Yotviriyapanit from Thailand have also touched down in Adelaide to critique the three days of Eventing.

The formalities begin tomorrow with the veterinary inspection of the horses. The competition begins with the Dressage phase on Friday, Cross-Country on Saturday and the nail-biting Jumping phase on Sunday.

Fun for the whole family: Spectators are treated to one of the most spectacular settings anywhere in the world for an Equestrian event.  The competition takes places throughout the beautiful parklands of Adelaide city enabling an enticing mix of espresso and equine activities.

In addition the Adelaide event will host a busy social schedule including Friday’s Dancing with the Stars lunch featuring a fashion parade and the Party in the Park with DJ Wolfman providing beats deep into the night. On Saturday Flicks in the Park will screen a family movie on a big screen from 4.30pm followed by a BBQ Party in the Park allowing guests to rub shoulders with some of Australia’s best riders and much more.

Ho Ho Ho:  Whilst you enjoy the competition and entertainment you can also take care of your Christmas shopping at the “The Market Place”.  This year the trade area will be bigger than ever-before and will be centrally located around all the action in Rymill Park. The Market Place will of course feature everything equine but will also encompass exhibitors from a range of lifestyle industries.

For the media: Press conferences will be held in the media centre at the conclusion of competition each day.  Confirmation of times will be posted in the media centre daily.

Tickets for the 2010 Australian International 3 Day Event can be purchased through Venuetix at www.venuetix.com.au   or at the gate on the day. Entrance gates are located on Rundle Road (box office) and Bartels Road (main gate). Paying area includes Rymill Park. Much of the cross-country course is in a free viewing area.
